Vaux le Vicomte

The day after Christmas, we took a bus outside of Paris to a chateau, Vaux le Vicomte.  This chateau is beautiful!!!  It was decorated for Christmas.  Christmas trees lining on the entry steps to the chateau and had Christmas music playing.  All the rooming had roaring fireplaces and cute Christmas decorations everywhere!  I loved it!  It's located in an awesome forest.  You follow a tree lined tunnel to the chateau.

The history of the chateau is actually pretty interesting.  So the owner was Nicolas Fouquet, who was the finance minister for Louis XIV.  Nicolas Fouquet threw a big housewarming party.  Louis XIV was so jealous of his beautiful chateau he arrested him and stole his artist, architect and landscaper.  He then built the Chateau of Versailles.  Also all the the furniture in Vaux le Vicomte is not original becuase Louis XIV stole it all.  Can you believe that?  So terrible.

I have been to the Chateau of Versailles as well.  Both are beautiful.  Versailles is more grand of course, but I think if I had to chose to live in one or the other I'd choose Vaux le Vicomte.  It's more intimate and more homey.
